Entertaining, But Not Necessarily Accurate...
There has been a glut of exciting movies and television thrillers predicting
all kinds of natural and man-made disasters. We’re keeping a watchful
eye on the skies for asteroids streaking toward earth and looking for monsters
in the closet again. These video spectaculars may be entertaining,
but accuracy is sometimes an alien concept.
One of the contemporary issues recently dealt with on both the large
and small screen is water quality. A “movie-of-the-week” last fall
centered on a deadly-but-fictional parasite that infected a city’s water
system, and John Travolta is currently receiving kudos for a feature film
involving a drinking water theme.
Fort Bend County Municipal Utility District No. 25 has extensive safeguards
in place to prevent these fictionalized “disasters.” We have optimized
our water treatment equipment and technology for the protection of our
residents, and we go to extraordinary measures to identify any water quality
problem which might impact public health. We survey our residents
each year to learn of any special concerns or questions, and we strongly
support open communication throughout the year, as well.
If you have any questions that might have come up as a result of television
or movie dramas, please contact us. If enough people are interested
in these issues, we’ll even devote a future newsletter article to responding.
In the meantime, watch for asteroids if you must, but enjoy the excellent
quality of our District’s water with confidence.
